If you’ve been following musician John Mayer lately, you know that he hasn’t exactly been the shining example of righteousness. He was recently accused of being racist because of comments he made in an interview with Playboy magazine, and then he leaked some personal information about ex-girlfriends Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston in the same article, which didn’t go over too well.

Maybe he needs to kiss a baby to win people back? No — inviting an 11 year old kid to play with him at a concert will work just as well.

During one of Mayer’s concerts earlier this week, a small boy in the audience held up a sign that said “Can I play ‘Belief’ with you?” In a bold move by the singer/songwriter, he invited the kid (whose name is Austin) up on stage with him, gave him a guitar, and let him play the song. It’s a good thing the kid knew how to play it! Otherwise, that would have been another strike on John Mayer.

As a good gesture towards Austin, Mayer let him keep the guitar he had been playing. Oh, John Mayer — you may be sly, but you’re good. 

Afterwards, young Austin told reporters how excited he was to have had the experience. He had been practicing the song well before he attended the concert and his dreams were answered with Mayer plucked him out of the audience that night.
