Even though it’s still cold and we’re in winter hibernation mode, there are plenty of signs that spring and summer are right around the corner: when I wake up, I hear birds chirping. Also, the temperature is slowly starting to rise ever so slightly. But the number one thing that reminds me warm weather is near is that summer concert tour dates are being released!
One of America’s highest grossing musicians (in ticket sales, that is) is Jimmy Buffett. For years, it’s been the same old thing with him — fans run to their computers and dial in on their phones the first second that tickets are released, scrambling to get a chance to see one of their favorite stars perform during the summer. Tickets for one show are often sold out in less than five minutes.
This year, his tour will be called the Under the Big Top Tour and it will kick off in Tampa, Florida this April. I’m sure one of the main focuses of this tour will be Buffett’s latest cd release Buffett Hotel, which came out in December of last year. Of course, many tradition Buffett tunes will make their way to his setlists, too.
Buffett concerts are always a wild party, especially in the parking lot before the show. People gather round and drink like fools while they sing songs, play games, and show off their island attire. Here are a few interesting things I’ve seen in a Buffett show parking lot: an entire pirate ship, a lifeguard stand (complete with sand), a kiddy pool, men in grass skirts, pirates with live parrots on their shoulders, a tiki bar, and endless amounts of mixing, grinding, and swirling drink concocters.
There are rumors circulating around the internet that this will be Buffett’s last tour. There is no evidence to back it up yet.
